These are a few tips to keep you and your account safe.
Your Password
- Don't give it out to other people. Unless you absolutely trust the person, do not ever give away your password.
- Make it hard to guess; do not base it on something people would have access to; eg. your birthday or your real name.
- Don't write it down nor keep it in your computer. Other people may find it and use it.
- The MODs and the Admins will never ever ask you for your password.
- To be extra careful, you should change your password often (once a month or so)
What makes a good password?
A good password contains a mix of numbers, upper and lower case letters. Update your password every few weeks to be safe! And don't forget to write it down somewhere. Don't keep it onto your pc. Do not use words or numbers like your name, birth date, or PI account name/pony's in your stables!
Use a safe password. A strong passwords contains at least 3 of the following things:
- Capital letters (A, B, C)
- Small letters (a, b, c)
- Numbers (1, 2, 3)
- Symbols (!@#$%^&*) This is not allowed on every site!
Examples (don't use these ones, make up your own!):
- b6Uj7Mg5
- G2gOq768
- m0U3u4kv
What should I do if I think someone knows my password?
Change your password immediately. Go to profile -> General. You can change it there. Also report it to a MOD. Forward any PM's in case you got them, or tell they why you think that someone knows your password.
To report any other violation or a concern, please PM VeeZ or email ten.dnalsiynop|troper#ten.dnalsiynop|troper. The email subject should be the name of the player you want to report. The email should also contain your player name and a description of the problem.
And keep in mind that the PonyIsland staff will NEVER ask for your password!
I keep getting password requests. What should I do?
When a password is requested the IP of the person that requested the password is send with the mail, so in case you keep getting your password sent to you even tough you didn't request it, a tracking can be done on the IP.
Your Account
- Only share your account details with people you trust.
- Do not sub your account to other people unless, again, you trust them.
- Check that the website you're logging into is http://ponyisland.net or http://ponyisland.org. If you find a site that looks just like PonyIsland with the login system, but the url is different (eg. http://ponyislend.net - there's an E in island rather than A), please report it to the Admins or MODs.
What is a scammer?
A scammer is a person that tries to get your password by telling/promise you all kinds of things. You will get your dreampony, that person will put money on your account, and more like that. You will never receive what is promised to you, and you will loose your account and/or pony's, because you told your password, and it was changed by the scammer afterwards.
Trading with Other Players
- If you have purchased an account from someone, change the password and email immediately.
- As quoted from the Non-pony trade forum WARNING "If you buy, sell, or trade PI accounts, BP, PG or ponies, you must be aware that you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK."
- While the above clarifies that it is at the player's own risk, you may use the PI Feedback Forum to double check whether or not there have been any complaints about the player you plan to trade with.
Forums
If you see inappropriate content on the forums, please do not hesitate to contact the MODs or the Admins.
How to report threads
- There is a feature on threads called "report" at the bottom of each thread. This will flag the MODs and Admins to check up on the thread. If it is reported 5 times, it will be temporarily deleted. However if this feature is abused, it will result in a forum ban.
Yourself
- Do not ever give out your personal details to other people. This includes your real name, where you live and so on.
- If a person PMs you for your details and is persistent, or says things to you that you don't like or makes you feel uncomfortable, leave or ignore them. If they are persistant, contact the PonyIsland staff.
- If a person requests to meet you in real life, do not do so.
- Tell your parents or guardians what you are doing By telling them where you are hanging out online - and perhaps even showing them - you will put their minds at rest.
