I see a lot of people ask about this, and I've decided to write a little tutorial :}

Someone pointed out that you can search for your dead ponies via the Search. This is true, but you CANNOT find Unnamed ponies this way. Unnamed ponies DO NOT show up on Searches, whether they're alive or dead! This is why, when people try to sell unnamed babies in their Nursery, they must advertise them manually by posting about them in the Sell forum :} People cannot find them by searching for babies for sale. Unnamed ponies can't even be put into contests. They just don't show up on the list of ponies you can enter.

Heads Up: It is NOT easy to find a dead unnamed pony. Be sure you're willing to spend up to a couple of hours searching!

This tutorial assumes you are searching for the baby shortly after it died. If it's been a couple of weeks, read the bottom of this tutorial - I'll go over the changes you have to make :}

Okay, first off, you will need to know when the pony was born. This is absolutely necessary. A pony will die exactly seven days after it was born, on the hour it was born. So, if it was born on 12-01 at 12:00 PI time, it will die on 12-08 at 12:00 PI time. If you do not remember when the pony was born, check the "Sorry for your loss" PM (if you received one and if you have not deleted it). It will have been sent on the hour the pony died. The hour that the pony was born will not matter so much in searching, as it won't show up on a pony's lookup, but it's helpful to know.

If you do not have this PM, or do not know when the pony died exactly, this will be almost impossible :/ Unnameds do not show up on their parents' offspring lists either, so you can't find their birthdate that way.

Once you have the date and hour figured out, go to Search.

Change "Filter: Age" to "Baby", and "Order By: Name" to "Birthday", and change "Ascending" to "Descending".

So here is what the Search should look like.

Now click Search. You'll get a ton of results, starting with babies that were born last hour. Click to the next page numbers until you've gotten to ponies that were born seven days prior. It might take a LOT of pages - lots of babies are constantly being born :}

Now, find the LAST pony that was born the day BEFORE your pony was born. So, if yours was born on 12-01, you are looking for the last baby that was born on 11-30. This is important, because you might "pass by" your pony if you start with one that was born on the same day.

Now, once you have this other baby pony, open its lookup by clicking on its name. You're looking for its Pony ID #. I've chosen one of my own Phoenixes, Traian Sheala, as an example. She's a lovely girl who was born 7 days prior to my writing of this tutorial.

http://www.ponyisland.net/index.php?src=pets&sub=profile&pet=872649&usr=32137

Notice how, in her URL, there is a section called "pet=" followed by a number? In Sheala's case, that number is 872649. This is her Pony ID #. Each pony has a unique ID #. If you were, for example, to look at the pony whose ID # is 872650, you'd see the pony that was born right after Sheala, and so on, if you kept increasing the number. In this way, you can find YOUR pony eventually by increasing the Pony ID # one-by-one. This is what I meant when I said resurrecting an unnamed pony is hard. Tedious too!

This part of the process could take a long time, depending on how many ponies were born that day. You might seriously have to change the ID number hundreds of times - but this is where your pony's HOUR of birth can come in handy. If it was born at 1:00 PI time, you'll know it's not too many numbers away, since 1:00 PI time is right after the day-change. If your pony was born at 20:00 PI time, that's VERY late in the day, and there would have been a great many ponies born prior to that, so you MIGHT be safe in skipping ahead a few numbers.

All you have to do to look up the "previous" pony in line of ID #s, change the number up in the URL bar. You don't have to touch ANY of the other numbers in the URL, only the one after the "pet=". Once you've entered the new number, hit enter to load the new pony's lookup!

For example,

http://www.ponyisland.net/index.php?src=pets&sub=profile&pet=872649&usr=32137
http://www.ponyisland.net/index.php?src=pets&sub=profile&pet=872650&usr=32136
http://www.ponyisland.net/index.php?src=pets&sub=profile&pet=872651&usr=32135
http://www.ponyisland.net/index.php?src=pets&sub=profile&pet=872652&usr=32134

and so on - notice how I'm only changing the Pony ID# by one each time? :}

(( TIP: It's also feasible to post in the Help forum, stating your deceased pony's date and TIME of birth, and ask if anyone has a named baby pony that was born near that hour on that day. This way you can start out with a better idea of the ID # ))

BUT WAIT, LAKOTA! WHAT IF MY BABY DIED WEEKS AGO?

Well… this makes it very difficult XD It's still feasible to find your pony, but almost impossible if you don't know your pony's birthdate. You also might now be searching for ADULT ponies, if it's been two weeks or more days since your baby died. By now, the babies born on the same day as yours would have grown up into adults. This Search will likely take forever to complete, as it'll be loading ALLLLL the adults on the site XD Make sure "Order By: Name" is changed to "Birthday", and change "Ascending" to "Descending". Then follow the same process - find the last pony born on the day before your pony was born and change Pony ID # in the URLs from there. Good luck!
